Isreal Ikumuyi , 27-year-old farmer, was tried before a Magistrates Court in Oke Eda, Akure, on Friday, March 12, for raping a 10-year-old girl to death.
The incident occurred on February 2, 2021 in the village of Akinfosile near the Igbotako community in the Okitipupa local government area of Ondo state.
It emerged that the elementary school girl identified as Esther Friday was lured into the room by the suspect, who promised to give the girl a certain amount of money.
Narrating how the girl died in her room, Ikumuyi explained that he was in the kitchen when the deceased asked him for money.
“She came looking for me in my kitchen asking for money, but I told her that the money I have is to cook soup. After a while, she came back to meet me but this time she still followed me from the kitchen to the bedroom.” begging me for money. Then I gave her N100 and slept with her in the room, “he explained.
He said that as she lay next to hers on her bed, he developed a loving feeling for her since he has no girlfriend.
“We were together in bed, but I find it difficult to penetrate her despite everyone my efforts and I had to cover his mouth with a cloth so he couldn’t raise the alarm. “
“She died when I had sex with her.”
He said he was scared after noticing that the girl had died and decided to lock her in her room while her parents searched for the girl, but said neighbors found the girl’s body in her bed.
The suspect was beaten and almost lynched by neighbors of the deceased parents but due to the timely intervention of people who turned him over to the police.
He said that the crime committed by the defendant contravened Articles 316, 319 (1) of the Penal Code Cap 37, Vol. 1 Laws of the Ondo State of Nigeria of 2006.
Goodluck prayed to the court to return the accused to preventive detention pending the outcome of legal advice from the Public Ministry.
He said Ikumuyi lured the victim into her room by promising to give her N100 and got away with it while people in the community searched for her.
The defendant’s statement was not accepted, as he was not represented by any lawyer in court.
