Authorities of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State said they have launched an investigation into the mysterious deaths being recorded in the area.
Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha, said this in a statement by his Special Assistance on Media and Publicity, Williams Agwu.
Irimagha stated that he is aware of the public concerns and expression of discomfort over the sudden prevalence of malaria and typhoid, loss of taste and smells, which calls for the government’s urgent attention.
While advising the people to observe all safety and hygienic measures at this period, the LGA Chairman assured that government is on top of the matter and will provide a positive solution to this effect.
“As a responsible government we use this medium to inform the citizens that government is thoroughly investigating the issue as well as other related concerns and in due time it will relate same to the public,” he stated.
Unconfirmed reports have it that about 9 persons have died in Bonny Island in the last few days, all with same symptoms.
