Bad Leadership Has Wreaked Bitterness And Sadness In Nigeria – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lashed out at the leadership of the country for their poor leadership qualities.

In the view of Obasanjo, bad leadership has brought the country to the current state of heightened insecurity among other things.

Obasanjo addressed an audience at an event at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Obasanjo said: “My prayer is that all of us will have something to contribute to making this country what God has created it to be – a land flowing with milk and honey.

“Right now, it is a land flowing with bitterness and sadness, that is not what God wants this country to be. We must change the narrative, we must talk to ourselves in the civilised language.

“Nowhere you go in this country you will not see geniuses in any section. So, why should we look down on ourselves?

You could recall Obasanjo and Sheikh Gumi played a key role in the release of the Afaka students of Federal College of Forestry.

Gumi explained the role as:  “The role myself and former President Olusegun Obasanjo played in the release of the 27 Afaka students is the role of mediators because the fight is not between us and them but between the bandits and the government.

“What we understand is that these people were trying to attack the government by attacking the government institutions and take innocent children.

“Having understood that, we came to the conclusion that, this is not a hopeless situation. We can really go in and negotiate for the release of these children which we did after so much ups and downs.

“But in the long run, a conclusion was reached and these children are out. So, we are happy that, all of them are out and none was killed.”
