Banks in Anambra fail to comply with Buhari’s resumption orders 

Some banks in Anambra State on Tuesday failed to comply with President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to begin full banking services.

NAIJARAY reporter who was at some of the banks along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Awka noticed that banking services, besides those using the ATMs commenced at 9am instead of 8am as the President had directed on Monday night.

At the branches of some of the commercial Banks along the expressway, bank customers were seen hanging around by the gate of their respective banks, waiting for them to open for business.

A bank customer who simply identified herself as Miss Njide said, “I am here early to deposit money we made from sales yesterday, but I am disappointed that they are yet to begin work.

“My oga was happy when he heard that banking services will begin as normal because I usually come to make a deposit of the previous day’s sales before going to open our shop, and that makes us open our shop very late every day.”

Meanwhile, most of the banks also closed earlier than the normal 4pm.

Checks showed that only First Bank along the expressway was still operating at 3:30pm, while others had shut their gates against customers.

A bank customer, Mr. Nze Delay told NAIJARAY that as early as 2pm, banks in Ihiala had already shut their gates against customers in defiance to President Buhari’s order.

He said, “Ihiala Fidelity Bank shunned the Presidential order, they shut their gates by 2pm. As I am talking to you now by 2:45pm, no one is allowed into the bank for any form of transaction.”

As a means of easing the lockdown in the country, the chairman of the Presidential task force on CPVID-19, Boss Mustapha had announced that the President directed that churches, banks, hotels resume.
