COVID-19: Ede Poly produces face mask

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State has announced commencement of production of face mask that will prevent spread of coronavirus and at the same time allow for proper breathing.

A statement on Saturday by the polytechnic’s spokesman, Sola Lawal, said the Rector of the institution, Dr. John Adekolawole, had directed the Department of Fashion Design and Textile Technology of the school to mass-produce the item after the acceptance by the people of the first batch produced.

It read, “The Head of Department, Fashion Design and Textile Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Mr. Obajulu Olorunfemi whose department was saddled with the task, produced the item.

“The department used locally made tie and dye which was produced at the department to make the masks. The fabric is usually made of 100% cotton fibre.

“Apart from the mask being able to prevent the virus from being inhaled, it has the added advantage of comfortability and breathability , hence the ability to wear for a longer period without irritating the skin and also suffering from asphyxiation, “ the statement concluded.
