COVID-19: Implement provisions of quarantine act - Kwara Assembly tells govt 

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday urged the state government to implement provisions of the Quarantine Act by making the use of face masks and social distancing compulsory in the state.

It also urged the government to make non-compliance a punishable offence with compulsory quarantine/isolation and COVID-19 test.

These were part of the House resolution on a motion on the “Need for Urgent Control of Community Spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Kwara State”: kwham 3, moved by Hon Yusuf Abdulwaheed AG, (Essay/Shawo/Igboidin) constituency.

The House also asked the state government to intensify public enlightenment campaign in the media to sensitise the citizenry on the reality of COVID-19 and the need to adhere to various safety protocols put in place to put its spread under control.

The legislature further called on the citizenry to abide by safety measures including the use of face masks, observance of social distancing and regular hand washing among others.

Hon Yusuf, had while moving the motion for the debate, expressed worry that in spite of the daily announcement of figures of infected persons in the media, scores of Nigerians still live in denial of the reality of COVID-19 without adherence to safety measures laid down.
