Some prominent Nigerians in Oyo State have appealed to Muslims across the country to uphold the lessons learned from the one-month Ramadan fast.
The immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, former Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin and Gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Lagos State, made the appeal in separate statements to congratulate Muslims on the completion of the Ramadan fast.
Ajimobi who doubles as the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged Nigerians to live in togetherness and peace as exemplified by Prophet Mohammed. (SAW)
The former Governor in the statement signed by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Bolaji Tunji also urged Nigerians to continue to cooperate with President Muhammadu Buhari in the management of Coronavirus.
Ajimobi said, “While urging Nigerians to continue to keep safe in this lockdown period, he enjoined the people of Oyo State and Nigeria to exercise patience as the government was doing all in its power to ensure that the country was not adversely affected by the pandemic and its attendant economic implication.
Alli in his statement added that Muslims should continue to uphold the lessons of Ramadan fast by shunning those evil deeds abandoned during the Ramadan fast.
“When the land is troubled, the prayers of the faithful will heal the land. I pray to Allah to accept the thirty-day fast as an act of Ibadah and save the World, our Nation Nigeria, and Oyo State from the Coronavirus pestilence bedeviling the whole of humanity.
“I enjoined all to adopt moderation in the celebrations and adhere strictly to the precautionary measures laid down to avoid further spread of the Virus.
Ogundoyin said that observing 2020 fast amid COVID-19 was no doubt challenging and distressing hence Muslims should be commended for their steadfastness despite the lockdown.
“On this joyous day of Eid-al-Fitr, I wish you and your family a very happy Eid. May Allah accept all good deeds and shower his mercy and fulfill your life with happiness and prosperity. Eid Mubarak!
While calling on Nigerians to use the period of Eid-al-Fitr celebration to pray for an end to Coronavirus in the world and for the nation to get it right in terms of leadership and governance, Ogundoyin charged Muslims to continue to uphold the teachings of Ramadhan among which are attaining piety, seeking nearness to Allah, cultivating good manners, abstaining from vices, showing love, giving in charity and reading the Quran among others.
“Staying at home to celebrate this year’s Eid al-Fitr will help to protect friends and family from coronavirus (COVID-19). The great effort on social distancing already achieved throughout Ramadan will be sustained if we all stay in our homes”.
Mumuni in a statement made available to DAILY POST by his media aide, Mallam Rasheed Abubakar, noted that this year’s Ramadan was a departure from what it used to be in the past given the emergency the world finds itself today.
The APC chieftain said the period of Eid-al-Fitr symbolizes perseverance, love and kindness, urging Muslims to extend hands of fellowship to their brothers during the celebration.
“I urge fellow Muslims to shun extravagance and take to moderation in their celebrations as Allah has commanded.
He urged Muslims not to lose their guard in the fight against the novel virus in the course of the celebration while advising them to take to social distancing, sanitary practices and other precautionary measures outlined by health authorities.
