Eminent Scholars from different walks of life today poured encomiums on the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim for his uncommon leadership style at different levels of his career and contributions to national development.
This was part of the activities during the presentation of a book published by the Department of History and War Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, in honour of General Ibrahim which held at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
The 447 paged book, which was divided into 25 Chapters with 4 parts and titled; “War, Society and Leadership in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim was reviewed by the President of the Historical Society of Nigeria, Professor Okpeh Okpeh, who stated that “the actual conduct of warfare, the management of victory and the process of building and rebuilding and developing societies are ultimately linked to the qualities and capacities of leadership”.
He said the book isolates the complex intersections between war, leadership and development which serves as critical variables in the evolution of human societies throughout history.
In his remarks, the Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General J Sarham described General Ibrahim as an academic icon of repute.
Also speaking at the event, the Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Education Corps, Major General MM Bumza extolled the sterling qualities of General Ibrahim whom he described as a pragmatic and visionary leader.
He called on Nigerians at all levels of government to be honest, humble and trust worthy.
“We have all that is needed to make Nigeria great, and if we can harness good leaders in all spheres of administration, Nigeria will become the best country that any human being will want to be”, he said.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, who was represented by the Sergeant at Arms, Air Commodore Sani Zakari (rtd) said General Shuaibu Ibrahim’s robust wealth of experience and purposeful leadership in the NYSC has taken the Scheme to an enviable pedestal as youth – moulding and empowerment agency.
Other speakers at the book presentation included the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences NDA Kaduna, Prof. DO Alabi, Head, Department of History and War Studies, Prof. CCC Osakwe, Academy Provost, Prof. Isa Garba among others.
The book was edited by Professors CCC Osakwe, OE Tangban, AO Ahmed and LO Udeagbala.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim in his response thanked the Nigerian Defence Academy with its scholars for mentorship.
He equally commended the management and staff of NYSC Scheme for their support and dedication to duty, noting that the essence of human existence is to positively touch as many as one comes in contact with in the course of earthly sojourn.
