Ongoing Strike Suspended – National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) Announces

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called of its proceeding strike for first period of four weeks.

Confirming the development to PREMIUM TIMES late Saturday night, Uyilawa Okhyaihesuyi said the strike has been suspended for four weeks and isolation centers will start operating.

He said;

“The strike has been suspended for four weeks and isolation centres resume 8 a.m. on Sunday and others on Monday,” he said.

According to Mr Okhuaihesuyi, this update comes after the federal government considered a new agreement to help end the strike on Saturday morning. He said;

“All house officers yet to be paid, will be paid by Monday.

“All our members on GIFMIS would be migrated to IPPIS and paid their owed salaries in earnest and those still being owed 2020 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF)will be paid from the supplementary 2021 budget.

“2021 MRTF sorted and Increment in hazard allowance is being worked on,” the president said.

Recall that Ghgossip reported that the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, called for a National Executive Council meeting on April 7, 2021 to analyze the proceeding strike and review the offers the Federal Government has provided so far.

In the virtual meting attended by more than 100 members from more than 60 centers across the country, there was a uniform voting that the “total and indefinite strike” which began on April 1 persists till the states and federal governments consider their demands.

The National President of NARD, Dr Okhuaihesuyi Uyilawa told Sunday Vanguard that regardless of the efforts of the national officers of NARD to make sure that the Federal Government meet their demands to take care of the strike, the insincerity of the government still holds and hence the deadlock.
