Thomas Partey has held a couple of meetings with Arsenal representatives during the 2018/2019 season, as he began to consider a move to the Gunners, The Athletic reports.
The 27-year-old completed a £52.5m deadline day move to the Emirates on transfer deadline day after Arsenal triggered his release clause at Atletico Madrid.
The transfer has been a long time coming, with Partey discussing his potential position in the team with the Gunners’ former head of international scouting, Francis Cagigao.
These secret meetings took place in Madrid, where Partey stated his preference to play as a deep-lying midfielder.
The Ghana international also expressed his admiration for fellow Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
