The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, on Sunday, alleged that Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had secretly changed the title of director-general given to the leader of the Amotekun Corps, Mr Amitolu Shittu, to avoid court sanctions.
The opposition party had dragged the governor to court over Shittu’s appointment as the Amotekun DG, describing the title as strange to the law that established the security outfit.
A statement by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr Sunday Bisi, titled: ‘Amotekun: You Can’t run away from shadows of your errors, Osun PDP tells Oyetola’, alleged that the governor secretly changed Shittu’s title from director-general to field commander as provided by the Amotekun law passed by the state House of Assembly after it had challenged the appointment in court.
The statement read in parts, “In a clandestine attempt to escape the hammer of the law, Governor Oyetola changed the nomenclature of Amitolu from the widely reported DG as contained in the press release signed by his CPS on April 24, 2020, to Field Commander of Amotekun with a purported letter of appointment post-dated to April 30, 2020, incidentally, the very day the Osun PDP served a pre-action notice on the government for the wrong appointment.”
