Adegunodo Ruling House, Iwo, Osun State, has urged Osun State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, to intervene and stop Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, from making one Alhaji Semiu Fanta as head of the ruling house.
The ruling house said it had a living Mogaji in Alhaji Najasi Alade and alleged that Oba Akanbi’s plan to instal Fanta as Mogaji was aimed at causing division among the princes.
A letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police signed by representatives of seven royal families that make up Adegunodo Ruling House dated May 14, 2020, and made available to newsmen on Monday, said from time immemorial, it was the duty of the ruling house to choose usually the oldest and most experienced prince among them as Mogaji.
“We implore you to wade into this matter in order to avoid violence, mayhem and bloodshed and particularly to prevail on Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, Oluwo of Iwo, to rescind his decision to install Alhaji Semiu Oladimeji Fanta as Mogaji of Adegunodo Ruling House. It is a taboo to say the least,” the letter read.
Also, while speaking to newsmen in Iwo on the issue, Secretary of the ruling house, Ganiu Saheed, though admitted that Fanta is a prince in the ruling house, he, however, added that Adegunodo had a living Mogaji that could not be replaced.
He insisted that Oba Akanbi was not interested in the Mogaji backed by the majority of the ruling house because of the legal matter instituted against the monarch by the princes.
Reacting to the allegations, Oba Akanbi said no one had been presented to him as Mogaji of the ruling house. He said the princes reserved the right to choose whoever they wanted as their Mogaji subject to his approval.
