Milan did most of the attacking in the opening minutes of the game, which put Chelsea on the back foot. However, the hosts eventually took the lead. After winning many headers from corners, Silva started applying pressure to the Milan defense before Fofana scored off a rebound after Tatarusanu parried the ball in the box. After gaining the lead, Chelsea had the game under control and played with much more assurance. In the 56th minute, Aubameyang tapped in James’ cross for his first goal in the Champions League since the 2017–18 campaign. James then scored his own goal to make it 3-0, finishing expertly at the near post to give Chelsea the victory.
