We Can't Punish Anyone Who Sprays Naira Notes, We Are Not Law Enforcement Agency - Central Bank Of Nigeria

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has stated that it is unable to prosecute anybody who break its currency or banking rules.

Acting Director of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, who spoke on behalf of CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele at an interactive session with organized labor in Calabar, Cross River state, over the weekend, cautioned against mismanagement, defacing, and dirty treatment of the naira because the federal government spends a lot of money to print it.

The cost of printing the Naira, according to Nwanisobi, is usually borne by the people in the long run. He stated

“CBN is not a law enforcement agency. But we completely frown at such an attitude where the national currency is not accorded its due respect as other nationals do their currencies.”

At the ceremony, the CBN also unveiled its five-year financial policy for 2019 to 2024. The apex bank’s five-year policies and programs, according to Nwanisiobi, are people-centered.

He said;

“We have churned out an array of economic intervention programmes aimed at impacting the economic well-being of the people.

“We want Nigerians, including smallholder farmers, petty traders, entrepreneurs and industrialists to key-in to these programmes instead of staying aloof to doubt.

“We particularly encourage the return to agro-allied businesses instead of all depending on oil.”
