Ghana's Akufo-Addo emerges new ECOWAS chairman - Punch Newspapers

As the news of Queen Elizabeth’s passing hit the news, condolences started pouring from all around the world. The sudden demise was something that not even telecomasia could have predicted and definitely came as a shock to people. The monarch was a popular figure not only within her country but in other nations across the globe as well. She had acted as queen regnant of 32 countries, and Ghana was one of them.

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, mourned her death and reminiscenced the visits Queen Elizabeth paid to his country (the Queen visited the country twice; once in 1961, when she famously with the then-President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah, and once again in 1999) and praised “the friendliness, elegance, style and sheer joy” with which she performed her duties. In a statement, he said that “her inspiring presence, her calm, her steadiness, and, above all, her great love and belief in the higher purpose of the Commonwealth of Nations” will be missed. He further said that the Queen’s actions were always driven by her belief that the Commonwealth could be a harbinger of good in this world, and that is something he will surely remember. He sent his condolences to the royal family and ordered flags within the country to be flown at half-mast for the next 7 days, as a way of paying respect to the cherished monarch.

Reverend Lawrence Tetteh, the International Evangelist from Ghana, who is also the founder of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach, too remembered the Queen fondly. He had had the pleasure of being hosted by the Queen herself at Buckingham Palace and delightfully remembered the warm aura that she exuded. He further remarked that Queen Elizabeth II’s life was a well-lived one, and he would always remember her qualities of tenacity, dignity and boldness, which had the ability to bring people together.

The British High Commission will also honour the late Queen Elizabeth II by opening the book of condolence.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II marks the end of one of the longest reigns in the English Monarchy. She passed away on 8th September, at the Balmoral Castle located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She ascended the throne in 1952 and was the monarch of the United Kingdom and fourteen other Commonwealth realms at the time of her death. Her reign, which lasted for 70 years and 214 days, saw one of the most successful monarchical reigns in recent times. The 20th century saw monarchs all across the world being removed or exiled, but Queen Elizabeth remained popular among the masses, within and outside the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom will enter a period of official mourning that will last ten days, starting from Friday. With the passing of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles has become the new Monarch, who has taken the title of King Charles III for his ascension. While he will act as the monarch, there is no date for his coronation yet.
