Spain: Oshoala wins league with Barca, Adule’s Eibar promoted

Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala, will be given the Spanish Primera Iberdrola winners medal following the sudden end to the 2019/20 season, with the title handed the Spanish giants.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation was unable to meet the government’s health protocol following the coronavirus outbreak, thus the termination of the women’s league.

The announcement saw Barcelona reclaim the league crown for the first time since 2015 despite being unable to see out their remaining games due to the Covid-19 crisis.

The Nigerian had a fantastic season before the suspension of the league, scoring 20 goals and helping her club win the league without losing a game, to become the fifth team to achieve the feat.

The Blaugranes were at the top of the Primera Division Femenina with 59 points from 21 games before the league’s suspension.

Also, Charity Adule’s Eibar were promoted to the Spanish La Liga for the 2020/21 season following the abrupt ending of the league.

Southern region leaders Santa Teresa and Eibar, who are second in the northern region because leaders Athletic B had a team in the topflight, will claim the promotion tickets.

Adule’s team return to Primera Iberdrola for the first time since 2011.

She joined the Spanish outfit from Kazakhstan champions BIIK Kazygurt in January after ending her four-year stay in eastern Europe with multiple domestic titles and Champions League experience.

Despite missing the two opening matches, the 26-year-old has inspired the Unbe Sports Complex outfit to 13 league victories, seven draws, and just two defeats.

The former Bayelsa Queens star scored 10 goals in 14 outings – the highest scorer for Iker Dorronsoro’s team as they accrued 46 points from 22 matches to cement second spot.
