Tottenham evacuate 300 people after fire breaks out at their £1bn stadium

A small fire broke out at Tottenham Hotspur’s Stadium on Thursday morning, September 2, forcing the club to evacuate 300 people from inside the ground.

According to reports, air compressor caught fire which led to the evacuation at around 10am, with the flames then put out by an electrician before two engines from the London Fire Brigade arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported among the 300 people evacuated from the north London stadium by Tottenham Hotspur staff, who were following standard safety procedures.

A statement from the London Fire Brigade read on Thursday: ‘Firefighters were called to a fire at a football stadium on High Road in Tottenham this morning (Thursday). An air compressor was damaged by the fire.’

‘Around 300 people were evacuated from the nine-storey building by on-site staff. There were no reports of any injuries.

‘The Brigade was called at 10:01 (BST) and the fire was under control by 10:59 (BST). Two fire engines from Tottenham Fire Station were at the scene.’

Later on Thursday, members of the public were able to queue up for the Tottenham club shop and the Dare Skywalk, which allows people to scale the height of the stadium and enjoy views of London from the top of the ground.
