Nothing special about Amotekun, not a force –Ogun CP

The Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has cautioned the people of Ogun State against overrating the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Operation Amotekun.

The police commissioner said there was nothing special about Amotekun and that it was not going to be operated as a force in the state .

Ebrimson said this while featuring on an interactive programme on Splash 106.7 FM, a private radio station in Abeokuta, on Sunday.

The police boss said Amotekun would be treated like other voluntary security outfits such as vigilance groups, among others .

He said, “Amotekun is just an organisation coming to assist in policing; the same way vigilance group and others are doing .

If they come on board, they will operate under the supervision of the police. I think people are getting misguided about Amotekun, Amotekun is not a force; Amotekun is an aspect of maybe vigilante to partner other agencies in the state to provide the desired security.

Ebrimson said plans were on top gear to engage community policing practitioners at the rural and the community levels.
